Awards and Recognitions

St. Mary’s is a vibrant school both inside and outside the classroom. The following provides a highlight of our 2016-2017 school year in the areas of academics/extracurriculars and sports.


-Twenty-three Junior High students were inducted into the Junior Beta Club which recognizes students for academic achievement, character, leadership, and service.

-Eleven seventh grade students qualified for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program (TIP).

-St. Mary’s Academic Team placed first in the region, first in the district, and fifth place overall (out of 130+ teams) in the state Professional Association of Georgia Educator's PAGE Academic Bowl.

-Eighth grade students placed first in their division for the national Catholic Math League competition.

-The top five St. Mary’s Future City Competition teams participated in the regional Future City Competition with one team placing first. This team represented the South Carolina Region in the national competition in Washington D.C. Other regional awards earned by St. Mary’s teams included Best Model, Best Essay, Best Energy Systems, Best Distribution of Power, and two Honorable Mentions.

-Two eighth grade students qualified for the state-level in the MATHCOUNTS competition at Georgia Tech.

-A fifth grade student placed third in the All-Area Independent School Spelling Bee.

-St. Mary’s CyberSaints teams earned first, second, and fourth place finishes in the state round of the Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot Competition. Two of the teams advanced to the national semifinal round.

-An eighth grade student placed first and two students were awarded Honorable Mentions in an essay competition sponsored by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. The theme was the role of the Irish in World War I.

-Sixteen students participated in the inaugural St. Mary’s Band. Students also have an opportunity to join the Aquinas High School Band while at St. Mary’s.

-Four students participated in the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 10 Sixth Grade Honors Chorus.

-Twenty-four second through eighth grade students participated in the Run Hard Running Program where they trained for and participated in a 5K race.

-Sixteen second through fifth grade students signed up for the new St. Mary’s Chess Club.


-The following St. Mary’s teams won their championship in the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League:

Football team
Boys’ and girls’ cross country teams
Boys’ and girls’ basketball teams
Boys’ and girls’ soccer teams
Baseball team

-St. Mary’s golf team earned second place in the league and two golfers finished in the top six, including the top golfer.
