We
believe writing should take place on a daily basis for a variety of
purposes. Additionally, grades 6-8
teachers should meet to determine which types of writing each grade level will
be responsible for teaching. Then, the
language arts teachers should meet periodically thereafter to discuss language
arts curriculum concerns. A suggested
outline of writing modes divided by grade level has been included. The curriculum committee recommends that
teachers consider their own strengths and weaknesses, preferences, as well as,
writing that occurs in other subject areas (writing across the curriculum) when
determining which writing modes will be taught at the 6th, 7th,
and 8th grade level.
