On "spirit days" students are to come to school in an SMCS t-shirt, jeans or acceptable shorts or pants, and sneakers. SMCS t-shirts can be purchased in the school store (if available) or ordered at the beginning of the school year.

On "out-of-uniform days" students are to come to school in appropriate clothing.  Clothing should be clean, neat, and not offensive in any way.  Bare midriffs are unacceptable.  Clothing that is torn, baggy, revealing, etc. will not be tolerated.  Length of shorts or skirts should be beyond the longest fingertip when arms are extended lengthwise at the student's side.  If ever there is a question, opt on the side of caution.  Students coming to school wearing inappropriate clothing on out-of-uniform days will be required to change.  Students who abuse out-of-uniform days will lose the privilege.  They will have to come to school in uniform on days when other students are allowed to be out of uniform.

JEWELRY/MAKEUP

Jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, dangling and/or multiple earrings, or multiple rings) is not part of the school uniform.  Only stud earrings are acceptable for girls and only one religious necklace and bracelet are permissible. Watches may be worn, but bracelets are not permitted.  Girls in the 7th and 8th grades may wear foundation or base makeup but  lipstick, eye makeup, and fingernail polish are not permitted.  For all other students makeup, including fingernail polish or colored lip gloss, is not permitted during school hours.  Students with makeup and/or nail polish will be required to remove it.

GROOMING/HAIRCUTS

Proper grooming is expected of every student. Fad haircuts and coloring of hair is not acceptable and will be determined at the discretion of the principal. (Examples: rattails, pony tails for boys or inappropriately shaved hair.)  Any infraction of the grooming code will necessitate a phone call to the parents to request that the student’s haircut be corrected as soon as possible.  Consequences will be at the discretion of the administration.

Students are required to be in proper uniform from the opening day of school until the closing day unless parents receive a notice that the students may be out of uniform.  Students are to keep shirts tucked in until they leave school property.

Noncompliance with this dress code, including, but not limited to, rolling of skirts, untucked shirts, no belt, improper shoes, improper jewelry, or wearing make-up or nail polish, will be subject to detention being issued.  If the student continues to be in noncompliance, a parent conference with the principal will be necessary.
