GRACE Scholars

GRACE (Georgia Residents Assisting Children’s Education) Scholars, Inc. offers children from Georgia families, that demonstrate financial need, an opportunity to attend Catholic elementary and high schools in the State of Georgia.

In 2008 the Georgia legislature passed a bill that allows Georgia taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state tax dollars to student scholarship organizations such as GRACE Scholars.

GRACE Scholars provides Catholic school scholarships to Georgia families. These scholarships are need-based and available to children entering kindergarten, first grade, or transferring to a Catholic school from a public school.

Donors simply divert a portion of their Georgia state tax dollars to the Grace Scholarship Fund. Individuals can redirect up to $1,000 of their state tax dollars and a married couple can re-direct up to $2,500. Business “C” corporations can contribute up to 75% of their tax liability. For example, if you owe $2,000 in state taxes and you designate $1,000 to a Catholic school through GRACE Scholars, then you will only owe $1,000 in state taxes.

Being a GRACE donor costs you nothing. You are simply redirecting your taxes - money you would be paying regardless - to Catholic schools.

Families who are interested in beginning an education at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School may qualify for scholarship monies through GRACE Scholars if they are Georgia residents and demonstrate financial need. GRACE scholarships may benefit Georgia families who have a new kindergarten student, first grade student, or a student who is transferring to St. Mary's school from a public school in Georgia.

The deadline for applying for a GRACE scholarship is March 1, 2019, for the 2019-2020 school year. Please note that a complete packet must be submitted by the deadline. (A complete packet may be submitted after the March 1, 2019, deadline, but funding may not be available.)

The complete packet must include a finalized FACTS application, a completed GRACE application, a copy of a utility bill showing Georgia residency, and a copy of a parent or guardian's Georgia Driver's License.

The GRACE Scholars application process is as follows:

• Apply and be accepted to the school.
• Apply for financial aid through FACTS. Please make sure that you finalize your FACTS application by the March 1, 2019, deadline.
• Complete and submit to the school the GRACE Scholars application form(s) and also include a copy of a utility bill showing Georgia residency and a copy of a parent or guardian's Georgia Driver's License by the March 1, 2019, deadline. This information can be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., mailed to the school, or brought to the school.
• The school will then forward the materials to GRACE Scholars, Inc.
• Qualifying families will be notified by GRACE Scholars, Inc. of any scholarship amount awarded. This information will be copied to the school.
• If an award is granted, GRACE Scholars, Inc. will issue a check in the family’s name directly to the school. The family will then endorse the award check to the school in order to reduce the tuition balance. A family that receives GRACE funds will need to re-apply for the scholarship and follow the same process as the prior year.
