Welcome from Laura A. Webster, Principal

Welcome to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School, the parish school of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. In a Christ-centered atmosphere, the mission of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School is to teach, to learn, and to become faith-filled servants of Jesus. By having Christ as the center of our school and in partnership with parents, we are teaching our students to become the next generation of Christian leaders.

St. Mary's is a kindergarten through eighth grade private Catholic school serving families from Columbia and Richmond Counties in Georgia and Aiken County in South Carolina. We welcome families of all faiths. Accredited by AdvancED, St. Mary's has a rigorous curriculum that challenges our students to succeed.

School Highlights

St. Mary’s school campus is located at 1220 Monte Sano Avenue in the beautiful and historic Summerville area of Augusta, Georgia. We are adjacent to Augusta University’s Summerville Campus and practically a five iron from the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament.

The school opens at 7:40 a.m. The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Morning care is available beginning at 7:00 a.m. After-school care is available until 6:00 p.m.

We are committed to academic excellence. Upon graduation students are expected to reason logically, read critically, write correctly, express thoughts articulately, and to both analyze and question vigorously. Our students are encouraged to be lifelong and self-reflective learners who continue to grow in both intellectual wisdom and spiritual grace.

St. Mary’s teachers create a caring and supportive environment and have the flexibility (i.e. freedom) to use their experience and ingenuity to enhance learning in the classroom. Teachers are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree and Georgia teacher certification.

Through the Office of Catholic Schools, Diocese of Savannah, St. Mary’s has an enhanced curriculum that exceeds state and national standards and provides a Catholic education that is both academically challenging and developmentally appropriate.

St. Mary's offers enrichment resources in all grade levels ranging from the use of engaging activities, manipulatives, and educational technology resources to ninth-period electives in the seventh and eighth grades. Ninth-period electives may include broadcasting, competition math, First Aid/CPR, Model UN, study time, TED-Ed Student Talks, and yearbook to name a few. In addition to their weekly Spanish class, eighth grade students may take Spanish 1 as a yearlong, ninth-period elective.

We embrace educational technology and incorporate its use into virtually every aspect of school life. Technology is used in all grade levels from kindergarten through eighth grade. Our campus is fully networked with classroom computers, smart boards, iPads, Chromebooks, and laptops. St. Mary's Computer/Technology Lab provides a hands-on environment for students to learn coding, cybersecurity skills, keyboarding, multimedia production, robotics, and software applications.

The Reading Lab helps students succeed by offering small group or individualized reading instruction. Our full-time reading interventionist works closely with classroom teachers and parents to provide the best instruction possible for students.

St. Mary’s offers a study skills program that includes learning styles, study environment, organization, listening skills, reading and comprehending expository text, note taking, outlining, critical thinking, and test taking.

Our students successfully participate in academic competitions including the CyberPatriot Competition, literary/writing competitions, MATHCOUNTS, Model UN, National Geographic Bee, PAGE Academic Bowl, Perennial Math Tournament, Scripps National Spelling Bee, and more. We are proud of our students and their award-winning accomplishments.

Extracurricular opportunities include Academic Team, Band, Boythovens, Chess Club, Chorus, CyberSaints, Drama-Christmas Musical, Junior Beta Club, Safety Patrol, and Student Council.

St. Mary’s is a vibrant school both inside and outside the classroom. We have an active student body with more than 80% of sixth through eighth grade students participating in school sports. Our award-winning sports program includes baseball, basketball, bowling, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. St. Mary’s is a member of the Augusta-Aiken Middle School League.

St. Mary's has a full-service cafeteria for students who choose to purchase their school lunch.
